MIAMI, October 3, 2006
Adults and Youth who are Under-served Deserve Attention a nonprofit organization dedicated to help the lives of children and families who are underserved and/ or at risk in Miami-Dade County through education, life skills training, and programs that support self sufficiency, received a $2,500 mini-grant from Rotary Club for a PRIDE! gardening project in Overtown.
This grant will support AYUDAs effort to plant a community garden by Happy Children of Overtown Center located at 2101 NW 3rd Avenue, Overtown, FL 33127. "The garden would not only make the center more appealing, but it will greatly increase children's awareness and appreciation of nature, beautify in the neighborhood and develop PRIDE. AYUDA is an umbrella organization helping the Happy Children of Overtown Center and providing Family Empowerment and Parents Now! groups." expressed AYUDA's President Diana Susi.
By sponsoring this project, the Rotary Club is helping to accomplish AYUDA's mission of helping the lives of children and families who are underserved and/ or at risk in Miami-Dade County. Since its opening in 1977, AYUDA has helped over 40,000 families by providing resources, referrals, child care, social work, and psychological assistance.
"It is enlightening to see the passion in the counselor's eyes when they brainstorm with each other and help with suggestions on how to enhance their clients' lives. I am very proud to be part of AYUDA's team; I am proud to be guiding AYUDA into building a better and safer society. We are thankful to the Rotary Club for their support in Overtown." said AYUDA's CEO Luis DeJesus.
